Diet

Fully Vegan
No animal products served. All dishes are vegan.
Fully Vegetarian
No meat or fish served. All dishes are vegetarian.
Gluten-Free Options
Has gluten-free menu options available.
Vegan
Has vegan menu options. Does not mean the restaurant is fully plant-based.
Vegetarian
Has vegetarian menu options. Does not mean the restaurant is meat-free.

Place Type

Bakery
A bakery or patisserie.
Café
A café primarily serving drinks and light food.
Chain
A branch of a national or international chain. Menu and options are typically consistent across locations.
Convenience Store
A konbini or similar store with packaged food options.
Izakaya
Japanese pub-style dining. Often has a wide variety of small dishes.
Restaurant
A sit-down restaurant with full table service or counter dining.
Ryokan
A traditional Japanese inn.

Chinese
Chinese cuisine.
Indian
Indian cuisine.
Italian
Italian cuisine.
Japanese
Traditional or modern Japanese cuisine.
Korean
Korean cuisine.
Thai
Thai cuisine.
Western
European or American-style food.

Dish

This categorization exists to help visitors or tourists find specific dishes in Japan. The intention is that locations with these tags indicate a place where vegetarian or vegan versions of the dish are served.
